How to Buy a Diesel Truck

I thought I would share with everyone how to find a good diesel truck. I recently went through the process of buying a diesel truck and I have bought and owned over 10 diesel trucks the last couple of years.

First, I start off by researching the market. The truck market; especially the diesel truck market, is constantly changing. Every location is different as well and you may see more or less change in the market depending on your location. On average it takes me five days to two weeks to find the perfect truck. Don't feel limited to that time though, when your looking for a good diesel truck that fits your budget, do not let time be a deciding factor.

When you’re looking for a diesel truck you’re making a very expensive decision. You want to make sure you take your time to research the market until you understand everything about how the market is fluctuating and what’s going on with the market.

So here is the big secret:

I need to look at as many trucks as possible. Until I go and look at at least five trucks I don’t understand the market. I would encourage you to look at as many trucks as possible. The more trucks you look at, the more likely you are to find the best deal.

The best thing about looking at as many trucks as possible, when you find the best deal you will know it and be able to jump on it. When coming across the best deal you must jump on it quickly as most good deals will sell within 24 hours in a hot market. But once you know the market well enough you will be able to make a fast decision on a good deal.

That being said it is smart to get a pre-purchase inspection on an expensive vehicle such as a diesel truck. Diesel trucks are very costly to fix and maintain so keep that in mind when looking for your truck.

There are many various things that need to be examined when looking for a diesel truck. Make sure you check the major things such as blow by, correct coolant that doesn’t smell like diesel, and good oil that also doesn’t have diesel in. Also, make sure it doesn’t have a blown head gasket, there must be no pressure in the cooling system when it’s cold.

The biggest thing a seller needs is receipts. Receipts verify that the work the seller is claiming to have been done was done. Without receipts, you cannot trust that any of the work has actually been done. Receipts for work done to the truck, especially expensive work such as injectors is a big plus.

Signs that the person loved and cared for their vehicle and put a lot of money into the truck are good signs.

Better car inspections wishes the best for everyone right now and strongly encourages people to get pre-purchase inspection before buying a vehicle. It will most likely save you thousands. You can visit our website at bettercarinspections.com
